Summer Research Institute (SRI)

Nature of Research/Program Description:

The SRI program trains first-generation, underserved students in Biomedical majors how to perform lab work and successfully gain positions in faculty labs. SRI is an eight-week summer internship research program where students who have been accepted to the MARC, CAMP, UC LEADS, and Packard programs are introduced to the theoretical and practical aspects of laboratory research. Under the guidance of UC Santa Cruz’s STEM faculty, students develop expertise in areas that are basic to participation in a research laboratory. Field trips and workshops are incorporated into this institute in order to prepare our students for their research experiences in the fall and applications for graduate school. Students who complete this institute are eligible to begin research in a lab on campus starting the following fall.
