This symposium, on May 31, 2014, will feature work that explores poetry’s relation to political practice and social critique across historical and linguistic boundaries. Preference will be given to proposals that integrate literary critique, theory, and social context to illustrate the complex dynamics of language, culture, and power in poetic texts. Presentations on original poetry are welcome, provided they primarily concern lyric strategies of social engagement or critique. In order to be considered as a presenter, please submit a detailed abstract (no more than 400 words). This abstract should briefly discuss the subject matter, thesis, main arguments, and conclusions or potential outcomes. Submissions will be accepted until March 1.
